This dowel-making kit arrived in its own very good protective packaging. It was in excellent condition. The construction quality is very good. Everything about the device is solid. I do not see it ever failing because of a failed part (apart from the four sided cutter which will of course eventually need to be replaced. I'd call that "worn" rather than "failed.")

To make this work you need to either start with a square stick/blank. Uneven scrap or rectangular scrap will shatter.
Knocking the edges off a square would work well too. Making an existing dowel a different size would be a breeze.I have never used something like this and I was able to get it to complete the task relatively painlessly. Instructions would help a lot. Even if just to know that you have to gradually run the blank through the next smaller one or two holes for a perfect round dowel.

This is made out of aluminum and looks very nice. It works very good for making dowels out of what ever material you want. It’s safer then other ways I have seen.

Very solid. Works well. As would be expected the feed has to be on centre. If there is wobble in the in the rotation of the material the final finish is not very accurate. If using something like square wood stock it is better to feed it through a larger diameter hole first to round it off and then through the required hole to get a more accurate finish. Using smaller lengths of around 80 mm seem to work the best. Would definitely recommend.
