Perfect for cutting precise and parallel grooves, rebates and tongues, this versatile plough plane features a hard wearing rosewood fence with a generous surface area to guarantee accuracy and stability throughout the cut. This plane is suitable for grooving for plywood panels etc. It is fitted with adjustable depth gauge and double arm bridged fence, and will cut grooves 1/2″ (13mm) deep up to 4″ (100mm) from the edge of a board. Supplied with 4 blades: 3mm, 6mm, 9mm and 12mm, to vary groove width.

Investment cast stainless steel replaces cast iron in this redesign of the classic No. 043 plough plane.
The Hand planes are recommended by discerning cabinetmakers and carpentry instructors for their superb construction, finish and performance. Using world leading manufacturing techniques, each precision ground plane represents a serious alternative to the premium brands produced in North America. This design is based on the classic No 43 plough plane and is perfect for cutting precise and parallel grooves, rebates and tongues. A range of different sized blades can be used depending on the groove width required and the cutting depth and cutting distance from the edge is easily adjusted.
No 43 Plough Plane
This plough plane is an extremely versatile tool for cutting varying width grooves in drawers, boxes, cabinets, panels, frames, windowsills and boards. The plane is supplied with 4 metric blades; 3mm, 6mm, 9mm and 12mm. It is also supplied with a saw blade support bar and additional knurled knobs for use with an optional saw blade. When the fence is fully extended on the two bars there is a 100mm opening capacity and the main sole of the plane measures 140mm in length with a height of 70mm from the sole to the top of the D handle.
Materials & Manufacturing
Made from investment cast stainless steel this plane will allow for the planing of precise and parallel grooves. The D handle has been redesigned to ensure a comfortable and controllable holding position and the rosewood fence has a large surface area to guarantee accuracy and stability. The main body of the casting is CNC machined in the mouth so that the blades seat true to the sole. All adjustment knobs are turned from stainless steel and are knurled for a secure grip and easy adjustment. The blades are T10 high carbon steel tool which can take a keen edge, and that have been hardened to RC60-64 for maximum edge retention.

Why choose No 43 Plough Plane?
The essence of the tool as a simple, fast, quiet way to create grooves for drawer bottoms, back panels, windowsills, picture frames etc is retained. But with better materials and a bit of lateral thinking, a few notable improvements have been made.
The greater strength of steel and a clever rethink of the rear fence rod hole to replace the stippled casting web of the original with a larger, more comfortable, open bow handle that you can really tuck your fingers into.
The other significant change is the addition of a clamping attachment so that a saw blade can be connected to the skate. This allows the plane to be used for cutting arrow straight starter kerfs for rip sawing boards to width and for cutting accurate stringing from the corner of a blank for inlaid work.
Rather than expecting you to make your own, a removable American Cherry sub-fence has been included with the tool, the larger contact area improves stability and accuracy. The fence is relieved so that you can still use a portion of a wide cutter to form a rebate on the edge of a board.
Like the original it also features the ultimate in state of the art airborne dust management - not producing any in the first place!
