The guide rods are extendable and work with both the fence and the flip stops. You can add extra flip stops to drill a series of holes all the same distance from the edge of the material.

The versatile fence adjusts to the base along a pair of steel guide rods on all four edges so it can slide in any direction. This allows you to work close to the edge, or it can be turned around to get the maximum distance. When you’re working on a narrow edge, the fence can be positioned so the broad face provides extra support. For situations when you’re not using the fence, the guide can be turned so the thin edge provides an “outrigger” to improve stability.
