Description :
Luban No. 101 Bronze Block Plane, low angle mini hand plane for fine woodworking. This miniature bronze block plane is designed for modelmakers and violin makers, and is just plain adorable! The baby of the block plane world, the 101 is just plain adorable!

The original Stanley 101 was intended for children, but the tiny plane proved so popular with modelmakers, patternmakers, musical instrument makers and other serious craftsmen that Stanley had to make some quick changes to their advertising.

The LuBan 101 is much better made tool with some important differences: cast in bronze, so it can't rust, with a full cap and a lower bedding angle than the original for improved comfort and versatility. The LuBan also has a straightforward adjuster, absent on the original.

An ideal tool for modelmakers, luthiers, and anyone else who produces small scale fine tolerance work.

Luban No. 101 Bronze Small Block Plane

Why You Need It ?
It is among the favorite plane for small scale precision workpieces where a larger plane would be difficult to use or would struggle to access at some points.
This low angle plane will be valuable when working end grain, and the required depth of cut is easily adjusted from deep cuts to translucent shavings. Produced by a single bronze casting, the body of the plane has an excellent flat sole.

The sole measures 82 mm in length of 32 mm in width and features a 22 mm flat blade made of carbon steel RC62-63.

I have the LN version of this plane and loved it. I bought this one for my student benches and it has supplanted the LN in my affections!I think it is superior to the LN. The small wheel on the LN is difficult to adjust. The larger QS wheel is just right. The cut is good, and it's half the price!

Before choosing to buy this plane I had also shortlisted the Veritas version, and although I preferred the weight of the Veritas cast iron body the screw holding the cap iron seemed quite small and the locating slot looked a little flimsy. I may be wrong but the bar on the Luban looked to be a more robust solution.

The iron needed some work to flatten the back but it didn't take too long and is a one-off job anyway. The body is accurately machined and the sole is perfectly flat. It's straight-forward to set up and is lovely to use.

This feels a similar quality in the hand and costs almost half the price.

Overall very pleased!
